New findings of Air India Flight spikes mystery
Though the report maintains a neutral tone, one troubling detail stands out, continuing to puzzle investigators, aviation experts, and the public.
Moments after take-off, both fuel-control switches on the 12-year-old Boeing 787 unexpectedly moved to the "cut-off" position. This action, which shuts off fuel to the engines and results in a complete loss of power, is typically performed only once the aircraft has landed.
The cockpit voice recorder caught a brief but confusing exchange: one pilot asks the other why he "did the cut-off," and the other replies that he didn’t. However, the recording doesn’t make clear which of the two pilots said what. At the time, the co-pilot was operating the plane, while the captain was supervising the takeoff.
After the switches were moved back to their proper inflight setting, the aircraft’s automatic system began restarting the engines. By the time of the crash, one engine had started regaining power, while the second had restarted but hadn't yet reached full thrust. The aircraft remained in the air for less than 60 seconds before it crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad, located in western India.
With the full investigation expected to take about a year, various theories have circulated, adding more uncertainty to an already mysterious tragedy.
