South African President Appoints Manamela
This development follows the dismissal of Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, which she disclosed in a concise statement released on Monday afternoon.
Nkabane conveyed her appreciation to President Ramaphosa for allowing her to hold such a significant governmental position.
In her farewell note, she remarked, “I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, for entrusting me with the responsibility to serve as Minister of Higher Education and Training.”
Shortly after her message was made public, President Ramaphosa revealed the appointments of both Buti Manamela as the new minister and Dr Nomusa Dube-Ncube as the incoming Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training.
This cabinet reshuffle occurs in the wake of mounting criticism directed at Nkabane, especially regarding allegations that she misinformed Parliament about how members of the SETA board were selected.
Investigative reports circulated by media outlets highlighted that the selection process appeared to be significantly swayed by connections to the African National Congress (ANC).
Among the named individuals was Buyambo, the son of Minister of Mineral Resources, Gwede Mantashe.
