Russia, Ukraine Delegations Head to Istanbul

(MENAFN) The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that Moscow's team for the renewed peace discussions between Russia and Ukraine has traveled to the Turkish city of Istanbul.

These negotiations are scheduled to occur later the same day.

"Indeed, our delegation has left for Istanbul, and indeed, negotiations are planned for the evening," stated Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov during a media briefing with journalists.

According to Peskov, this marks the third session of the revived dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.

He clarified that the makeup of the Russian team remains unchanged and will continue to be headed by presidential advisor Vladimir Medinsky, who also led Moscow's representatives during the initial two meetings in Istanbul on May 16 and June 2.

He explained that the primary focus of the discussions will be on reviewing the preliminary documents that both delegations exchanged during the second round of negotiations held in the Turkish city.

Peskov further mentioned that part of the discussions will cover the continuation of prisoner exchanges and the reciprocal transfer of fallen soldiers’ remains.

Calling the upcoming talks a “very difficult conversation,” Peskov emphasized that the Russian and Ukrainian proposals are “diametrically opposed.”

Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that a fresh round of Kyiv-Moscow peace negotiations was set to take place in Türkiye on Wednesday.
