Lavrov Says EU Lives in Anti-Russian “Frenzy”

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has criticized the European Union for being caught up in an anti-Russian “frenzy,” prioritizing military build-up instead of addressing internal problems affecting the bloc.

He made these remarks during a press conference held in Moscow on Tuesday, following discussions with his Mozambican counterpart, Maria Manuela Lucas.

Lavrov condemned the EU’s growing hostile rhetoric and actions, suggesting that the “lessons of history” have been “poorly learned by the current generations of Germans, French, and representatives of other European countries.”

He expressed concern about Europe’s current trajectory, highlighting how the continent is immersed in what he described as a frenzy.

According to Lavrov, EU leaders are stirring up their populations by employing propaganda reminiscent of Goebbels, portraying Russia as an “existential threat” that is on the verge of attacking Europe.

This narrative, he explained, is designed to distract from pressing social challenges, economic failures, and the ongoing deindustrialization observed in Germany and other European nations.

Instead of tackling these domestic issues, the EU is singularly focused on “the militarization of Europe,” he stated.

In a related development, the European Commission recently proposed an unprecedented long-term budget of €2 trillion ($2.33 trillion) for 2028-34, marking a €600 billion increase compared to the previous 2021-27 budget.

This move underscores the bloc’s intensified emphasis on defense spending amid rising geopolitical tensions.
