UC Coalition Sues Trump Administration Over ‘Woke’ Policy Clampdown
(MENAFN) A wide-ranging alliance of faculty, staff, students, and labor unions within the University of California (UC) system launched a legal challenge Tuesday against the Trump administration’s suspension of federal funding and efforts to suppress free speech.
The coalition filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, aiming to halt what it described as "harmful" financial coercion tactics by the administration.
"The Trump-Vance administration has attempted to implement a playbook to threaten colleges and universities," the lawsuit states.
Since January, the second Trump administration has singled out leading universities for allegedly maintaining “woke” diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies — which President Donald Trump contends are discriminatory and unlawful.
In response, the administration has threatened to cut government funding to these institutions, among other measures.
Trump has also publicly condemned universities that permit pro-Palestinian demonstrations, accusing them of fostering antisemitism.
