Turkey officially assumes designation of 2026 Turkic World Tourism Capital

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s capital, Ankara, has officially assumed the designation of "2026 Turkic World Tourism Capital" following a ceremonial handover event held in the Kyrgyz city of Manas, according to official statements released Friday.

The designation was decided earlier this year during a tourism-focused meeting of a regional Turkic cooperation framework, as stated by authorities.

During the ceremony in Manas, a symbolic key representing the title was formally transferred by the city’s mayor to senior representatives from Ankara, marking the official handover of the role.

The Turkic World Tourism Capital program, carried out under a multilateral Turkic cooperation mechanism, is designed to deepen cultural collaboration among participating states, promote shared historical heritage, and raise international awareness of the Turkic world’s tourism potential.

The event featured cultural performances from both Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan, highlighting the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and spiritual connections between the two nations.

Throughout 2026, Ankara is set to host a yearlong calendar of cultural, artistic, and tourism-related activities. These events will be organized under the coordination of national and local authorities, with contributions from public institutions, municipalities, academic bodies, and civil society organizations.

Officials noted that during the year, Ankara is expected to function as a central hub for cultural solidarity and tourism exchange among cities across the Turkic world.
