Afghanistan Missile Attack Leaves Three Dead, Dozens Injured

(MENAFN) A missile strike in northeastern Afghanistan has reportedly left at least three people dead and dozens more wounded, with local sources alleging Pakistan’s involvement, according to reports on Monday.

Officials in Kunar province said the attack resulted in 45 injuries, noting that women and children were among those affected. Najibullah Hanif, head of the province’s Information and Culture department, confirmed the figures in remarks cited by reports.

So far, authorities in Islamabad have not issued any response regarding the accusations made by Afghan officials.

The incident was said to have taken place in Asadabad, the provincial capital of Kunar, which lies along the border with Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region.

The development comes after a period of intense cross-border fighting between the two countries earlier this year. In March, heavy clashes led to significant casualties on both sides, including civilians, security personnel, and fighters.

Hostilities subsided when both governments agreed to a ceasefire just before Eid al-Fitr on March 18, following appeals from regional countries, according to reports.

Subsequently, delegations from Afghanistan and Pakistan engaged in discussions lasting about a week in the Chinese city of Urumqi, with Beijing facilitating the dialogue.

Chinese officials later indicated that both sides had committed to “discuss a comprehensive plan to resolve issues” impacting their bilateral relationship.
