Germany Trial of Pro-Palestinian Activists Stalls Amid Security Dispute

(MENAFN) A trial in Germany involving five pro-Palestinian activists accused of breaking into the offices of an Israeli arms company began on Monday in Stuttgart but was quickly disrupted due to disagreements over courtroom security measures.

According to reports, the defendants—aged between 25 and 40—were brought into court in handcuffs and placed behind a bulletproof glass barrier. This arrangement prevented them from communicating privately with their defense lawyers during proceedings.

Defense attorneys objected strongly to the setup, arguing it compromised their clients’ rights.

The dispute escalated when the legal team walked out of the courtroom in protest. After a recess lasting around two hours, the issue remained unresolved, and the hearing ended without moving on to the main case.

“The defense considers this conduct an unacceptable violation of their clients’ right to a fair trial and has therefore filed a motion for recusal against the presiding judge,” the lawyers said in a statement.

The case relates to an incident in September 2025 in the southern German city of Ulm, where the activists allegedly entered the offices of Elbit, an Israeli defense company, in what they said was a protest action intended to draw attention to the situation in Gaza.

Prosecutors claim the group caused damage worth millions of euros and have charged them not only with property destruction and trespassing, but also with membership in a criminal organization.
