Trump Announces Large Volumes of Venezuelan Oil Set to Reach US

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that “hundreds of millions of barrels” of oil from Venezuela are being shipped to the United States, describing the arrangement as part of a developing energy partnership.

Speaking at a small business summit at the White House, Trump said the crude is being sent to US refineries, particularly in Houston, and framed the relationship with Caracas as increasingly cooperative.

"We have a great relationship. We have hundreds of millions of barrels of oil coming out of Venezuela, going to Houston, in different places to have it refined," Trump said.

He further described the situation as resembling “almost really a partnership,” emphasizing ongoing energy flows between the two countries.

His remarks come amid broader changes in US–Venezuela relations following a major shift earlier this year. Reports indicate that after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Jan. 3 during a US military operation, political changes followed in Caracas, including the installation of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez as interim president and adjustments to the country’s oil governance framework. Some political prisoners were also released in the aftermath of those developments.

At the same time, Washington has moved to reshape Venezuela’s oil sector, with previous reports indicating that US authorities have taken a leading role in managing crude exports and securing supply chains, including shipments directed to US markets.

Trump also linked the oil flow to broader economic effects, saying he expects energy prices, particularly gasoline, to fall once the conflict with Iran is resolved and regional tensions ease.

Earlier in the day, he claimed US forces had destroyed several small Venezuelan boats, while defending military actions in the region as necessary steps tied to energy security and preventing instability.
