Suicide Attack Foiled Near Pakistan-Afghanistan Border

(MENAFN) According to reports, Pakistani security forces have intercepted a suicide attack targeting a military post in the South Waziristan region near the border with Afghanistan, resulting in civilian casualties.

A security official stated that an attacker attempted to ram an explosives-laden vehicle into a military installation near a local market area late on Monday. Security personnel engaged the vehicle before it could reach its intended target, causing it to detonate at a distance from the post.

The explosion caused damage to nearby buildings. One civilian was killed, and around a dozen others were injured and taken to a hospital in Wana for treatment, according to local authorities.

Officials described the incident as an attempted suicide bombing aimed at a security facility in a volatile border region. The quick response by security forces is said to have prevented potentially greater casualties.

The region has experienced a rise in militant attacks in recent years, particularly in provinces bordering Afghanistan. Pakistani authorities attribute many of these incidents to armed groups operating across the border, while Afghan authorities have denied involvement.
